He actually ate the letter he gave to the clerk at the bank demanding money.
So he thought if he ate the letter that he might get off? Anybody have a news article on this one!
I don't have a link for it, but it was a guy who robbed a bank. The officer pulled out the ransom note and he ate it.
There is a reason. If the note threatened a weapon (even if he did not have one) he would be charged with armed robbery. Much worse felony.
